DING 2011: “Derbyshire sculptor, born in South Wingfield (near Matlock, Derbyshire). He spent most of his life in Derby. Apart from these five pieces in Derbyshire dialect, he wrote other books on Derbyshire life, customs and traditions such as Derbyshire Gatherings (1866) or An Historical Sketch of the Manor of South Wingfield, Derbyshire (1872) as well as studies dealing with his trade”.
