Lancashire Dialect

Leclaire (1954: 111): “Born at Failsworth, near Manchester. The son of a handloom weaver. Left school before six, to work in the cotton and silk manufacture. Had a passion for reading. His books deal with Lancashire life, which he knew at first hand. He counteracted the errors of Tim Bobbin (i.e. John Collier). Besides a large number of short stories published under the pseudonym of Ab o’ the Yate, he wrote a number of longer books, in which he shows himself an able painter of scenes and people.”
