DING 2014: ““Born at Hackney, Ms., he was raised at Porters Grange, Prittlewell, Es. He studied at Merchant Taylor’s School. He graduated from St. John’s, Oxford in 1839 and received his M.A. in 1842. He was curate at at Great Wakering, Es.; at Rochford, Es., for 12 years.; Hadleigh, Sf.; and at St. Mary’s, Prittlewell, Es. In 1869 he became Rector of Brighston, I.W. He was a theologian and a Tractarian novelist. He was a prolific writer of religious books as well as short tales and poems. Three poems in his The Fugitive (1870) are written in the dialect of Essex.”
