DING 2015: “Born at Sevenoaks, he was apprenticed to a bookseller in London and proceeded to open his own bookshop ca. 1833. He had a keen interest on English dialects. He gathered a bibliography on the topic, A Bibliographical List of the Works that Have Been Published towards Illustrating the Provincial Dialects of England (1839) and wrote Westmoreland and Cumberland Dialects, Poems, Songs and Ballads by Various Writers that same year. He published many other works on English dialects and by dialect writers.”
