DING 2013: “Born in Huntspill, Somerset, he worked at an apothecary’s until 1795, when he moved to London. Six years later he returned to Hunstpill to take care of his father’s grocery business. During these years he published several poems and contributed articles  to The Monthly Magazine and to provincial newspapers. By 1817 he was again living in London, as a professional writer. He founded the Metropolitan Literary Institution in 1823 and was editor of the Metropolitan Literary Journal in 1824. His 1834 poem “Doctor Cox” was reprinted in  The Dialect of the West of England (1869) with some changes. In it he described a drowning he himself had witnessed as a young boy in 1779”
